Weekend wrap-up

A description of my past weekend. It’s all a big blur to me. I’m starting this list from Thursday night, since I took Friday off from work. I’m also posting the list late because my week got off to an odd start; I stayed home from work Monday and Tuesday this week.

Thursday Night
Crista and I went out on our anniversary date. It was a blast! She did a write-up already, so I’ll just refer you to it.

Friday Afternoon
Went to Knott’s Berry Farm to see Crista dance. It was so amazingly hot. I didn’t get the chance to go on many rides, for two reasons. First, I hate roller coasters, so that limits my choice. But also, I was trying to see all her shows as well as hang out with her, so I didn’t want to spend too much time in line. It was fun, but really, really hot! I think I already said that. Speaking of hot, I’m hoping they’ll let her buy some of her costumes when she is done with the gig. She’s quite attractive in them. OK, I’ll stop.

Friday Night
Went to see Brian Regan at the Improv at the Irvine Spectrum. He was really funny. We stood in line for what seemed to be forever, but managed to talk our way out of any real boredom. I think they let us in too late too, they didn’t enforce their two item per person minimum, which, was definitely in our favor. His routine had almost all new material as well, I figured my brother would be jealous. Brian has been using the same routine for a while, and while it’s good, it’s not as fun once you’ve seen it a few times. The only jokes I recognized were from his pop-tarts bit.

Saturday Morning
Flew (rather, tried to) my RC plane at the local middle school. It was a fun time. I have got a better hang of not crashing it hard every time, and I didn’t break anything on this outing. I had a couple picture perfect landings even. Navigating while it’s in the air is still really rough going though. The other problem was the heat. I drank a large bottle of water, but still got so dehydrated and sick from the sun I thought I was going to pass out.

Saturday Afternoon
Mostly spent time reading.

Saturday Night
Setup my fishbowl for Maestro. Crista came over later and we watched Anchors Aweigh starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. It was entertaining, but I liked On The Town much more. I thought the latter featured better and more exciting dance routines.

Sunday
I think I stayed inside the whole day to read, and do nothing else. It’s all a blur. I felt really fatigued most the day.

My new pet

I got a pet betta yesterday. His name is Maestro.

I got water up my nose

In the summer I tend to have sinus problems, especially when I wake up in the morning. It’s never unbearable for me, but I figured it’s time I try something less drastic than constant decongestants to help.

My mom always recommends saline spray up the nose. They sell it over the counter at most pharmacies and doctors recommend it.

I decided, however, to take it a step further, and completely flush my nose with saline. You think it would be traumatic, but it’s not. I use a neti pot to do it. The solution is saline to not irritate your membranes, and is poured in one nostril and flows out the other. I never would have thought of it.

See the enticing demo video here. It will gross you out, I’m quite sure. I’ll have to see if the effects are good, I’m mostly worried if it causes any condition like swimmers ear with my eustachian tubes.

My sinuses do feel better though, and I’ve only used it twice.

100 things from the past year: the anniversary edition

Today is Crista and my one year dating anniversary. In honor of the occasion, I have created my third 100 things list. It contains 100 things that I have done over the past year that I probably wouldn’t have done otherwise. So without further ado, look inside for the list!

New hobby to try

Last night I stopped by Michael’s Arts and Crafts Store in Tustin with Crista to peruse what they had. I walked out with an essential oil diffuser, which is something I’ve wanted to pickup for a long time. It’s soapstone and matches my incense burner I got from Pier 1.

Crista picked up some crochet hooks and yarn to make me a blanket. It was fascinating to watch her work. I was reminded of my elementary school years when my friends and I got absorbed in finger knitting. I’m going to want to give it a go sometime.

I walked out of the store with a needlepoint kit. Yes, I am still a guy. If you have a problem with it, take it up with Rosey Grier.

Google IM service is (half) live

I’ve successfully connected to Google’s new instant messaging service, powered by jabber. Rumor has it they are unveiling the service tomorrow. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, server to server jabber communications are not yet enabled. If s2s gets turned on, jabber will get the shot in the arm it needs.

If you have a gmail account and jabber client, check out this slashdot story.
