I have a test jabber server running out of my house. If you care to play, my account name is x t e r n a l at xternal.dyndns.org (remove the spaces).

Ok, I’m trying to do this with GAIM. I registered with jabber.org (screenname: personman). Does that let me IM you at your private server, or do I have to register with your server? I tried that, but I couldn’t connect.

Oops, I probably shouldn’t have turned my server off! It will be an interesting test though. I know that if you message somebody that is offline but their server is up, their server will queue it. However, I don’t know if the sending server will queue if the receiving server is down (doesn’t sound like it).
And yes, the jabber.org server can do server-to-server with mine. You can’t register with mine because it only allows internal client connects. I’ll probably have it operational again in an hour or so.
I really need to buy the fanless, low power consumption box I’ve been looking at to use as a server.
